The National emblem, contained in a circle, is composed of a double diamond thunderbolt placed above a lotus, surmounted by a jewel & framed by two dragons. The double diamond thunderbolt represents the harmony between secular & religious power; which results from the Buddhist religion in its Vajrayana form. The lotus symbolises purity; the jewel- sovereign power; & the two dragons - a male & female stand for the name of the country - the thunder dragon ( Druk Yul).

The national flag of Bhutan was officially adopted in 1965 and consists of a white dragon over a yellow and orange background. The flag is divided diagonally from the lower hoist side corner, making two triangles - the upper yellow and the lower orange. The dragon, Druk (or Thunder Dragon) embodies Bhutan local Tibetan name (literally, The Land of the Dragon) is centred along the dividing line, facing away from the hoist side. The jewels grasped in its claws represent wealth. The snarling mouth reveals the strength of the male and female deities protecting the country. The white colour stands for purity and loyalty.
